Coburns Periodic Table of Whisky Elements

A visual language for how Coburns whisky feels, tastes, and evolves in the glass.

Coburns Periodic Table of Whisky

official version

Whisky speaks in layers. Some loud, some a whisper. The Periodic Table of Whisky Elements© gives you the framework; the Glossary gives you the language. Hover across each element to uncover its meaning, connect flavour to feeling, and put words to what unfolds in the glass. Take what you need. Leave the rest in the glass.

Explore Whisky Through Its Elements

Coburns whisky is built from layers: grain, oak, time, climate, and slow maturation. The Periodic Table of Whisky Elements© is our way of turning those layers into a clear visual map.

Each “element” represents a flavour or sensory characteristic: citrus peel, honeycomb, toasted oak, dark chocolate, dried fruit, umami, spice. Grouped into families, the table shows how these notes interact and where a whisky sits stylistically.

It’s not chemistry, it’s a flavour structure. A way to see the whisky before you taste it, and understand how its key components work together.

The Analyser

The Coburns Whisky Analyser (pat. pend.) is designed to awaken the whisky before your first sip. With a gentle squeeze of the bulb, air is drawn in and released through the spirit, encouraging controlled aeration. This softens the alcohol, lifts volatile aromatics, and allows the whisky to open in layers. Fruit brightens, spice sharpens, oak deepens. What might otherwise remain subdued begins to speak clearly. By the time the glass reaches your lips, the nose is expressive and defined. Preparing you to recognise the elements mapped within the Coburns Periodic Table.

The Analyser is exclusively available as part of Coburns Trunk Club membership.
